About Shepherds Camp

Shepherds Camp began over 45 years ago when Leo Spencer and Ron & Miriam Tenney had a vision of creating a special place for children with special needs. The Tenneys and Leo Spencer, all parents of children with special needs, wanted to start a program so children with developmental disabilities could have a place to explore, play, and be cared for in a Christian environment at a summer camp. This vision, starting with one week of summer camp for 15 campers, was the beginning of Shepherds Camp. Shepherds has grown into a place that teenagers and adults with developmental disabilities can come to experience the love of God and enjoy a week or two of camp. In the last 40 years, hundreds of people with disabilities have come to discover what a truly special place camp is.
For 2006, we are excited to announce that the continued growth of the program has allowed us to expand into six weeks of summer camp. This expansion will allow us to better serve our campers and provide more opportunities and options for camp.
We are so thankful and blessed to continue to serve over 200 individuals with developmental disabilities each year. Our goal is to remain true to our founder's vision so people can grow spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically in a loving, caring, and safe environment.

Why We Exist

The mission of Shepherds Camp is “to meet the spiritual and recreational needs of people with developmental disabilities” and to minister to the many care providers and families by providing a time of respite.
At Shepherds Camp we provide a safe place for individuals with disabilities to grow as a whole person. This includes physical, emotional, social, and spiritual areas. Foremost, we provide a place where the camper can come to know and experience the love of Jesus Christ and learn more about the special plans He has for each person. We also provide creative and empowering activities that allow each camper a chance to grow and challenge themselves.
